Yancheng Institute of Technology (YIT) started his college program in Construction materials in 1958, his department of construction in 1984, recruiting college students in 1985,then upgraded intoa bachelor program inconstruction in 1996. This department took the name of the Faculty ofCivilEngineering in 2004.
The Faculty of civil engineeringcurrently counts 14 professors, 39 associate professors and Class-1registered engineers, 30 teachers with PhD degree and 57 teachers with master degree. Among our teaching stuffs, there are1 member of the National Professional Steering Committee, 1 provincially recognized outstanding professor, 1 New-Century academic leader of Jiangsu province, 2 provincial Blue-Project outstanding young academic leaders, 1 provincial 333 Cross-century academic leader, 8 provincial Blue-Project backbone young teachers and 3 Six-Talents-Peak candidates of Jiangsu. The Faculty has also nearly 40 Class-1 registered structural engineers, Class-1 registered architects, registered geotechnical engineers, certified supervision engineers and certified real estate appraisers. The teaching team of our Department of construction is an outstanding teaching team of the province. Our Faculty attaches great importance to teachers' morality, creating a strong "teaching and educating people" atmosphere and emerging many rule models. Our Faculty has been recognized as an Advanced Collective of Jiangsu Province; the Party Committee of our Faculty is an Advanced Grassroots Party Organization of Jiangsu Province; the teachers' Party Branch is an Advanced Party Branch of our Institute; The Department of Architectural Engineering was awarded the honorary title of “Education, Pioneer and Vanguard” by our Institute.
The Faculty offers 6 undergraduate majors in Civil Engineering, Engineering Management, Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering, Architecture, Urban Underground Space Engineering, Construction Environment and Energy Application Engineering. Civil engineering major has become a special major in Jiangsu Province in 2009, approved as a national special major construction site in 2010, certified by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development for the first time in 2012, became a pilot project of the Ministry of Education's Excellence Program in 2013 and became a brand major construction site of Jiangsu Province in 2015, passed through the re-evaluation process of professional certification in 2017. The Water Supply and Drainage Science and Engineering major passed the certification of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development for the first time in 2016. The 4 majors of the Faculty are also the key major construction sites for civil engineering of Jiangsu Province.
The Faculty takes the national coastal development strategy as an opportunity to highlight Yancheng's coastal area features, and builds on the infrastructure construction of coastal cities and the development of tidal land resources. We have achieved a number of representative results in many fields such as new materials and structures for civil engineering, soft soil consolidation and underground space development, and regional water environment, water pollution prevention, etc. In the past five years, our faculty members have presided 7 projects of the National Natural Science Foundation, more than 50 provincial-level projects such as the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province, the Ministry of Science, Production and Research, and the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, and published over 70 high-level SCI and EI journal papers. obtained more than 40 invention patents and 7 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards, including 1 first prize and 2 second prizes, and more than 20 million yuan research funds. At the same time, the Faculty has established long-term cooperative relations with Nanjing Construction Engineering Group, Yancheng Architectural Design Co., Ltd., Nantong Second Construction Group, Nantong Wujian Group and other companies and contributed to the urban development of northern Jiangsu and even of the whole province.
Our Faculty possesses several provincial and municipal key experimental platforms such as “New Materials and Coastal Infrastructure Construction Demonstration Experiment Center”, “Environment Protection, Ocean Beaches Ecology and Pollution Control Key Laboratory” and “Building Structural Performance Improvement Engineering and Technology Research Center”; 13 specialized laboratories (BIM Training Laboratory, Geodetic Laboratory, Mechanics Laboratory, Structure Laboratory, Road and Tunnel Laboratory, Project Management Laboratory, Soil Mechanics Laboratory, Water Supply Laboratory, Applied Energy and Environment Laboratory, etc.) as well as one computer center. Our research equipment is valued over 23 million RMB and occupies a total area of 4200m2. Furthermore, our laboratories are equipped with numerous large-scale testing machines such as Electric-hydraulic Structural Fatigue Testing System, Double Channel Electric-hydraulic Structure Testing System, Computer-Controlled Electric-hydraulic Compression Machine, Asphalt Mixture Universal Testing Machine, Computer-Controlled Asphalt Mixture Dynamic Fatigue Testing Machine, Trailer Drop Hammer Type Sinker, Rotation Compactor, GDS Triaxial Machine, Resonance Column, Gas Chromatographer, etc.
The Faculty recruits students from 31 provinces and cities across the country and currently has more than 1,900 undergraduates. For a long time, the Faculty has adhered to the fundamentals of talent cultivation which centers on the construction of the study style strengthening education guidance and cherishing the idea that “knowledge is the cornerstone of building core competitiveness in life” throughout the four-year education process; set typical rule-models strengthening psychological guidance and psychological suggestion, strengthening postgraduate promotion and guidance; provided students with good postgraduate services leading an excellent study atmosphere; built competitions and activity platforms promoting practice, stimulating interest and enjoying success; strengthen classroom management, created dormitory culture avoiding or reducing bad temptations; given early warnings to unbalanced students to form a school-family-society joint forces in education. All that results in a study style with our own characteristics. The cumulative pass rate of our students in the National Band 4 English Test is over 80%, and the pass rate of Computer Band 2 Test is around 90%. Students won numerous awards in the national, provincial, and municipal science, technology, and cultural sports competitions. The entry rate for graduate school is about 20%, which is an advanced unit of the Institute. Graduates are widely favored by employers. The Faculty has continuously obtained advanced collective honors for school employment. While conducting undergraduate education, the Faculty also explores postgraduate education. Currently, the Faculty has cooperated with Nanjing University of Technology, Jiangsu University, Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, Suzhou University of Science and Technology, Anhui University of Science and Technology, Universit� de Moncton (Canada) and other domestic and foreign universities. The Faculty currently has 12 teachers employed by other universities as part-time graduate tutors, assisting the above universities to supervise nearly 80 master graduate students.
